Road Construction and Delays In July 2011

The following projects may cause traffic delays on Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) roads between June 29 and July 6 or may start shortly thereafter.
It is RCOC’s goal to conduct road improvement projects in a way that interferes with traffic as little as possible. This list includes both Road Commission projects and projects conducted by others, under permit, on roads under the jurisdiction of the Road Commission.
Please note: This information is subject to change. Projects can change from day to day, and traffic delays can develop in a matter of minutes due to weather, emergency situations, etc.
Asterisks next to projects denote new projects or a change since last week.

ROAD: Novi Road between 10 Mile and Grand River
Project: This section of Novi Road is closed through approximately Dec. 1 while RCOC widens and reconstructs the road to five lanes including constructing a bridge over the railroad tracks. The detour route for through traffic during the closure is 10 Mile Road to Meadowbrook Road to Grand River Ave. and back to Novi Road and vice versa. Access to businesses within the project area will be maintained at all times

Completion Date: Approx. Dec. 1

ROAD: Walton Blvd. from east of Adams Road to Great Oaks Blvd.
Project: RCOC is resurfacing this road. During the project, at least one lane of Walton in each direction will remain open at all times, but motorists may experience some backups, especially during rush hours.

Completion Date: By Aug. 12

ROAD: Crooks Road, just north and south of M-59 (from Austin Street to Star-Batt Drive)
Project: The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is resurfacing and widening this section of Crooks to five lanes as part of the widening of the Crooks Road bridge over M-59. During the work, Crooks is reduced to a single lane in each direction between Austin and Star-Batt. The new Croosk Road overpass over M-59will be four lanes, and two new loop ramps are being added at the interchange to eliminate left turns. The existing ramps at the interchange are also being slightly reconfigured and reconstructed.

ROAD: Crooks Road, 14 Mile Road to Equity Street
Project: RCOC is reconstructing this road and widening it from four lanes to five. During the project, at least one lane of this section of Crooks Road in each direction remains open, but motorists should expect delays.
Community: Troy, Royal Oak and Clawson
Completion Date: By Oct. 14

ROAD: Silver Bell Road between M-24 (Lapeer Road) and Giddings Road
Project: This section of Silver Bell is closed until Thursday, June 30, while RCOC replaces the bridge over the Grand Trunk Western Railroad tracks. During the closure, the detour route for through traffic is M-24 to Brown Road to Giddings Road and back to Silver Bell and vice versa.
Community: Orion Twp.
Completion Date: June 30.

*ROAD: Novi Road, 12 Mile Road to Grand River Ave.
Project: RCOC is upgrading traffic signals and pedestrian crosswalks in this section of Novi Road. During the project, there will be occasional lane closures, but most work will be done out of the roadway.
Community: Novi
Completion Date: By July 8

ROAD: Pontiac Trail at West Maple Road
Project: RCOC is repairing Pontiac Trail and West Maple in and around this intersection. Work is taking place as crews are available on weekdays between approximately 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. During the work, one lane in each direction on Pontiac Trail and Maple east of Pontiac Trail will remain open, but motorists should expect delays.
Community: Walled Lake
Completion Date: Dependent on availability of crews

ROAD: Pontiac Trail at M-5
Project: RCOC is constructing a modern roundabout at the Pontiac Trail/M-5 intersection. As part of this project, Pontiac Trail is closed from M-5 to Welch Road, and there are lane closures on M-5 and Pontiac Trail east of M-5. Pontiac Trail will remain closed between Welch and M-5 for the duration of the project. The detour route for Pontiac Trail through traffic is Haggerty Road to West Maple Road to Welch Road and back to Pontiac Trail and vice versa.
Community: Commerce Twp.
Completion Date: Nov. 1

ROAD: Parkdale Road between Letica Drive and Dequindre Road
Project: This section of Parkdale is closed while RCOC replaces the Parkdale Road bridge over the Stony Creek. Throughout the project, the detour route for through traffic is Dequindre Road to Avon Road to Rochester Road/Main Street to Romeo Road and back to Parkdale and vice versa.
Community: Rochester
Completion Date: Oct. 1

ROAD: Westbound 14 Mile Road at Telegraph
Project: MDOT has closed westbound 14 Mile Road at Telegraph Road while crews work on the reconstruction of northbound Telegraph from 12 Mile to just south of Maple. Westbound 14 Mile is expected to remain closed at Telegraph until early July. During the closure, the detour route for westbound 14 Mile traffic is northbound Lahser to westbound Maple to southbound Telegraph and back to westbound 14 Mile Road.
Community: On the Bingham Farms/Bloomfield Twp. border
Completion Date: Early July

ROAD: Crescent Lake Road at M-59
Project: Work is expected to begin in mid-to-late July on the construction of a new, southbound right-turn lane on Crescent Lake Road on the north side of M-59. The road will remain open to traffic in both directions during construction, but motorists may experience some delays.
Community: Waterford Twp.
Completion Date: October

Projects completed since last week:
– The CSX Railroad has completed repairs to its crossing on Wardlow Road between Milford Road and Harvey Lake Road in Highland Township, and the road is open.
– CSX has also completed repairs to its crossing on Milford Road between Clyde Road and Harvey Lake Road in Highland Township, and that road is also open.
