Rochester-Avon Historical Society presents “A Walk on Walnut” historical walking tour, on Wednesday, July 10

Join the Rochester-Avon Historical Society for a summer walking tour on Wednesday, July 10 at 6:30 p.m.

Rochester’s Walnut Boulevard once played host to seven churches within a two-block stretch. Walk with us as we tell the incredible stories of these buildings and the residents who called Walnut home.

A Walk on Walnut hosted by the Rochester-Avon Historical Society.

Hear of the Methodist Reverend who recruited unemployed workers from the Upper Peninsula’s Copper Country to staff Avon’s mills, the Congregational Pastor once known as “the Boy Bugler of Sherman’s Army” during the Civil War, the pioneer Town Supervisor who battled a knife-wielding Native American in the streets of Pontiac, the Western Knitting Mills executive who dabbled in spiritualism, and so much more!

This walking tour will cover roughly two blocks of Avon’s old “Church District” and will be led by RAHS historical guide Chris Brown. We’ll meet at the northwest corner of Second and Walnut Streets (203 Walnut).

This event is free for RAHS members. Nonmembers are asked to consider a $5 suggested donation at the start of the tour. Registration is required. Register online at www.RochesterAvonHistoricalSociety.org/events, by sending an email to rahsupdates@gmail.com , or call 248-266-5440 and leave a message.
