Rochester Community Schools Summer Music Theatre Presents ‘Children of Eden’

Children of EdenSummer Music Theatre (SMT) continues to be an annual tradition for the Rochester area community. Each summer offers a new musical theatre production as an opportunity for students entering grades 6-12 to study the theatre process on-stage and back-stage. SMT is operated as a professional production, from auditions through staging and presentation. This year SMT will also allow participation from a limited number of students entering grades 3-5.

“For the past 43 consecutive years, SMT has afforded a unique opportunity for Rochester and surrounding area students to participate in a Broadway-style production,” said Summer Music Theatre Director and Adams High School Theatre Director Jo Anna Pillsbury. “This year, we are performing Children of Eden, a book by John Caird, with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz. It promises to be one of our favorites.”

Under the direction of Pillsbury, SMT will run from June 15–July 25 at Rochester High School. Performance dates are scheduled for Thursday and Friday, July 23 and 24, at 7 p.m., with two shows on Saturday, July 25, at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Actors are also asked to participate in Set Strike from July 27–July 30. Hours for SMT are 9 a.m. – 1 p.m., Monday through Thursday, with additional time required for principal actors, including some Friday dates.

Auditions are scheduled for Monday, June 15, and callbacks are planned for June 16 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. All actors participating in SMT must be in attendance the entire week of performance and the week prior. A full schedule will be posted at www.AdamsTheatre.com under the SMT link. Tuition for SMT is $375 for Rochester Area Residents and $475 for non-residents. Additional production costs may apply.

Registration is available on April 27 at www.rochester.k12.mi.us, under Schools/Summer Learning. For additional information and audition materials go to: www.AdamsTheatre.com, under Actor Audition Pack.
