Rochester Community Schools Unveils Newly Restored Federal Art Project Mural

Rochester, MI – The Rochester-Avon Historical Society, Rochester Historical Commission and Rochester Community Schools are hosting a wine tasting and unveiling of the newly restored Marvin Beerbohm mural on Friday, January 14, 2011 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm in the Harrison Room at the Administration Center. The artist’s daughter, Cynthia Beerbohm Maguire will be the guest of honor.

The Marvin Beerbohm Mural was painted in 1938 as part of the Federal Art Project and was originally located over the main entrance to the (former) Rochester High School. LaVere Webster, painting conservator, has been working on the restoration of the Marvin Beerbohm mural for over two years. According to Webster this is one of the most significant paintings in Rochester.

The cost of the event is $40/person, and all proceeds after expenses will be donated to the Rochester Community Schools Foundation.
