The 20th Annual Rochester Garden Walk provides the perfect opportunity to spend a day learning about plants and gardens while being inspired by beautiful plantings and landscapes. A garden stroll in the early summer is a delight – it’s even better when joined by friends and family, and with gardens staffed with knowledgeable gardeners. This event is co-sponsored by the Rochester Garden Club and The Rochester Hills Museum at Van Hoosen Farm, and it showcases gorgeous, private gardens in the greater Rochester area that you tour at your own pace.
The private gardens reveal each owner’s personality and passions. You will see gardens of all sizes with unique plants, gorgeous landscapes and fascinating garden art. The public garden is a lovely piece of nature that is being restored by Oakland Township. In addition, guests can visit the Rochester Hills Museum grounds, which are located at the historic Van Hoosen Farm homestead. Participants will be able to stroll through the Calf Barn, the Dairy Barn, the Rochester Hills Museum and historic plantings surrounding the 1840 Van Hoosen Farmhouse as well as the award-winning Children’s Garden.
An Open-Air Market featuring Michigan artisans will be on the Museum grounds from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Shoppers will find unique creations in metal designs, garden art, and pottery, plants for the garden, fabric work and vintage finds. A local organic grower, Cold Frame Farm, will be here, so bring a cooler for your car to fill with delicious organic vegetables. The Rochester Garden Club will have native plants for sale.
Another perennial favorite of the annual walk is the Cookie Room located in the Dairy Barn. Rochester Garden Club members welcome guests to refresh themselves with cookies and lemonade.
Local nurseries Bordine’s, Fogler’s, Telly’s and Piechnik’s, and several local restaurants, are offering discounts and special sales when the garden walk ticket is presented.
