City Enters 2021 in a Strong Financial Position
The City of Rochester Hills recently announced receiving the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Certificate of Achievement for the 32nd consecutive year.
The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management. This award was given to Rochester Hills specifically for its comprehensive annual financial report for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2019.
“The Accounting Department is very proud to earn this award for the 32nd consecutive year. It’s a testament to my staff’s hard work and dedication to excellence,” states Accounting Manager Michael A. McLaughlin. “We strive to be accurate, responsive, and dependable for the residents of the City and to our other great departments. We hope to continue to maintain excellence in the future for the residents of Rochester Hills.”
The report has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate community members to read the report.
Thanks to conservative financial planning, a proactive approach to budgeting, and maintaining a rigorous procurement process Rochester Hills’ outlook remains strong. In addition, the city’s millage rate will, again, remain unchanged for the sixth consecutive year and stay among the lowest in Oakland County.
“It’s an enviable position for any organization, public or private,” states Mayor Bryan K. Barnett. “We’ve been intentional about emphasizing a focus on public safety, better infrastructure, retaining investment to maintain our tax and employment base, and preserving and enhancing the City’s coveted parks and recreation areas – and doing all of this while maintaining excellence in fiscal planning, procurement and stewardship.”
