Rochester Hills City Councilman, Marty Brennan, passed away today after losing his battle against cancer. What was initially diagnosed as prostate cancer and then later named Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Marty served as councilman since 2007 and was well respected by his colleagues. He is survived by his wife and three children.
“The City of Rochester Hills is mourning the passing of City Council Member J. Martin Brennan, who served the City from 2007-2011. Councilman Brennan lost his battle to cancer and passed away surrounded by his family on Friday, October 7, 2011 at the age of 58.
Councilman Brennan served on the Zoning Board of Appeals since 2008. He was the City’s representative on the Water and Sewer Technical Review Committee and was instrumental in the success of the Deer Management Advisory Committee.
Marty and his wife, Leta, have two children and have lived in Rochester Hills for 15 years. Their daughter, Caitlyn, attended the University of Michigan and their son, Trip, served on the Rochester Hills Government Youth Council and is a recent graduate of Rochester High School.
“Marty had an absolute passion for his service to Rochester Hills, our residents, and our employees. He was an advocate for our community and his leadership will be greatly missed,” states Mayor Bryan K. Barnett.
J. Martin Brennan was raised in Detroit, Michigan and has been practicing law for 30 years. He graduated from U of D High School, the University of Michigan, BBA, and received his law degree from the Detroit College of Law.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been confirmed.
