On November 17, 2015 at 12:39 PM Deputies were dispatched to a home in the 2800 block of Crooks Rd. for a Home Invasion which had just occurred. At home was a 77 year old woman who was alone in her living room when a male approached her. The perpetrator was described as a black male, approximately 5’7″ tall and wearing black hooded sweatshirt which was pulled over his head. He told her he had a gun and proceeded to assault her and she fought back. He pushed her to the floor then overpowered her and duct taped her hands, feet, and face. After hearing the perpetrator leave her home she was able to free herself and fled to a neighbor’s for help. Deputies, along with a K-9 Deputy, spent several hours searching for the suspect.
Dequantell Jamerson
The suspect’s description was broadcast to other law enforcement agencies and released to the media. The same evening at 10:40 PM, a citizen called in a suspicious person matching the suspect’s description who was walking around the parking lot of the Meijer on Marketplace Circle in Rochester Hills. Deputies made contact with a 27 year old Flint resident, Dequantell Jamerson, he was carrying a toy gun and wearing a black hooded sweatshirt. He was transported to the Rochester Hills Substation, interviewed and released pending further investigation. Detectives were able to link Jamerson to the home invasion through forensic evidence. During Jamerson’s initial interview, gloves were taken from him as evidence and submitted to the MSP Forensic Laboratory. The victim’s DNA was found on the gloves, proving he engaged the victim. Subsequently, the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office authorized a warrant for Home Invasion 1st degree (20 year Felony/$5,000 fine) and Unlawful Imprisonment (15 year Felony/$20,000 fine).
The case was turned over to the Sheriff’s Fugitive Apprehension Team to locate and arrest Jamerson. He was located in Arizona, arrested and extradited back to Michigan. Upon his return to Michigan he was interviewed by Rochester Hills Detectives and confessed to the home invasion. On May 9, 2016, Jamerson was arraigned on the charges at the 52-3 District Court before Magistrate Melinda A. Balian. A cash bond was set at $150,000. A Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for May 17, 2016 at 10:00 AM before Judge Julie Nicholson at the 52-3 District Court.
