Rochester Hills Invests $6 Million to Improve Hamlin Road

Improving safety for motorists and pedestrians a top priority

The City of Rochester Hills announced today that along with funding from the Federal Highway Administration, it will invest 6 million dollars to update Hamlin Road. Once completed, these updates will provide a smoother, safer ride for commuters.

“Hamlin is a key arterial road in this community,” states Mayor Bryan K. Barnett. “With Hamlin Elementary located just feet off of this busy road, the safety improvements being made will be greatly appreciated by local residents.”

The work will be completed in two phases over the next few months with the first phase starting June 15. Phase one will include the section of Hamlin Road from Livernois Road to Rochester Road and is expected to be completed by early September.

This phase will expand this section of Hamlin Road from a two-lane road to a three land road. As construction is underway in the first phase, this section of Hamlin Road will be reduced to one lane traveling eastbound so crews can make repairs. This section will be open to local traffic only.

Phase two will include resurfacing the section of Hamlin road from Rochester Road to Dequindre Road and is expected to start in September. This section of Hamlin Road will be open to traffic. Drivers should anticipate traffic delays during resurfacing.

“These updates to Hamlin Road will improve safety and overall ride quality,” states Allan Schneck, Department of Public Services Director.

Weather permitting, the entire project is expected to be complete by early November.
