Tap into Upcoming Maple Syrup Events in Rochester Hills this Winter
The City of Rochester Hills will give residents a behind-the-scenes look at how this sweet treat goes from the tree to table.
On Saturday, February 23, from 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. at Bloomer Park, the city will be hosting Making Maple Syrup: A Backyard Guide to Beginners. Families will be able to join our outdoor engagement team to learn how to make their own maple syrup. This is a brand new program that will provide a more detailed look at the process of making maple syrup.
This program is designed for both adults and children ages 12 and up. Participants will learn how to identify different species of maple trees, the tree tapping process, and how to set up sap boiling. Participants will also go home with their own spile, tubing, and bucket. This program is held rain or shine so come dressed for the weather and a walk through the woods. The cost is $12 per person. Spaces fill up quickly, so sign up to secure your spot for this unique experience.
In addition to this event, the city will also host their annual Sap-to-Syrup: Pancake Breakfast program. This classic event teaches guests the basics of making maple syrup. After, participants will enjoy a delicious pancake breakfast topped with syrup from trees tapped right here in Rochester Hills at Bloomer Park. Scheduled for Saturday, March 16 at the Rochester Hills Museum at Van Hoosen from 9:00 a.m. – noon. All ages are welcome. The cost is $7 per person (kids 4 and under are free).
“These maple syrup programs have always been very popular and provide a really great way for families to spend time together while connecting to the outdoors and our past,” states Natural Resources Manager, Matt Einheuser. “Not only do the programs themselves offer a fun afternoon but also provide the skills and know-how needed to make maple syrup on your own for years to come.”
Due to space limitations, these programs require pre-registration so sign up today. To register for this event visit our website rochesterhills.org/outdoors or call the Parks & Natural Resources Department at 248-656-4673.
