On September 23, Deputies from the Rochester Hills Substation were dispatched to the 1600 block of Huntington Park for a welfare check. A neighbor to the location discovered his elderly neighbor’s condo had a broken lower-level window with suspected blood on the front door. Deputies arrived at the location and observed a blood trail throughout the interior of the home. At this time, Deputies announced themselves and made entry into the home where they heard a faint voice asking for help.
Deputies discovered a deceased individual in the doorway of one of the rooms. A 90-year-old man was found further into one of the rooms with visible injuries. The victim stated he heard glass break in his home, went to investigate, and was attacked by the suspect. The suspect used furniture to go after the elderly man and stated he wanted to see someone die before he killed himself. The victim pretended to be dead and the suspect stopped the attack. Soon thereafter, the suspect collapsed and died due to wounds he received when he came through the victim’s window. The suspect was unknown to the victim.
The Rochester Hills Fire Department responded and rendered aid to the victim and then was he was transported to a local area hospital. The suspect, a 44-year-old Rochester Hills resident, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Forensic Laboratory responded and processed the crime scene.
The Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office is conducting an autopsy today. The victim is listed in serious, but stable condition. Detectives are continuing their investigation regarding the circumstances of the attack.
