The Rochester Hills Museum at Van Hoosen Farm will host a Veterans Day Book Unveiling and Talk on Wednesday, November 11 from 7 to 9 p.m. From 7 to 8 p.m. join Laura Cassar as she unveils her new children’s book – Ranger: A PTSD Service Dog that features a story about dogs trained to assist veterans suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Copies of the book will be available for sale. Guests will also be able to meet a real PTSD service dog and the organization that trains these dogs.
According to Jolante Bassett with Guardian Angels Medical Service, “ We are very excited and thankful to Laura for helping put our organization’s mission into words. Her book will help our Veterans explain to their children why they need a PTSD service dog and the tasks that the service dog will perform for them. We believe this will go a along way in a smooth transition for our service dog teams and their families. This event at the Rochester Hills Museum allows us to tell the story of how our service dogs help heal wounds unseen. Laura Cassar, a Rochester Hills resident has authored other children;s books, but this one was special because her father is a veteran as a Navy pilot. “I was honored to provide my time as a volunteer to help raise funds for this opportunity to help veterans.” The book is $15 with all proceeds going to Guardian Angels Medical Service Dogs.
Following the book unveiling Jerry Douma (Navy) and Bill Duthie (Air Force), both 90 years old, will be discussing their involvement in five major invasions in the South Pacific in World War II.
