Rochester Hills Public Library is Ending its Phone Call Notification Services October 1
Patrons are encouraged to come into the library by September 15 to choose between email or text for library account notifications. Notifications include material renewals, items on hold, overdue materials and item due dates. After September 15 the system will automatically default to email notification using the email address on file.
“We want to encourage those patrons who do use phone call notifications to please come into the library and let us help you make the switch,” said Head of Circulation Laura Rode.
The decision comes after six years of a steady decline in phone call notification usage.
“Less than 3% of our patrons use this service, and the physical server we use for it is aging and would need to be replaced. By ending the service we’ll be saving the library nearly $3,000 a year plus the cost of a new server,” said IT Director Derek Brown.
Patrons can review how they receive notifications and other account information online at rhpl.org or by calling the renewals line at 248-650-7174.
