Many grew up being taught the Golden Rule, treat others as you would like to be treated, but many would argue that rule is not often used. Discussing more on this topic, the Rochester Hills Public Library will be hosting the event Civility: The Factor that Binds a Free Society.
On Tuesday, January 24, at 7:00 p.m., Dr. Lee Meadows will be discussing what civility is and how common decency is constantly being challenged by social media and day-to-day stress in the modern life. A culture of the expedient tongue, a focus on self above others, and treating people based on your mood are other pieces that have pushed against civility.
“Between political fights on Facebook and aggressive holiday shoppers, America needs to take a step back and remember how to be civil,” says Dr. Meadows. “I plan to help guests to learn how they can preserve their relationships and continue civil dialog, even when it feels like it’s pointless.”
Dr. Lee Meadows is an author, motivational speaker and award-winning Professor of Management at Walsh College. With 30 years of experience, Dr. Meadows is also known as “The Lull Doctor”, providing knowledge on how management can revitalize office environments and solve work quarrels in a civil manner.
“At the Rochester Hills Public Library, we pride ourselves in helping our patrons solve the problems of their everyday lives,” says Community Relations Specialist Amanda Harrison Keighley. “Having Dr. Meadows speak on civility will help our patrons be able to understand why some people are not civil and how to productively work with them.”
Registration is available online for this event at calendar.rhpl.org. Sign up in advance as space will be limited.
