Rochester Hills Public Library Offers New Programs For Millennials

The Rochester Hills Public Library is reaching out to millennials through several new programs this summer.

A recent Pew Research project found 50 percent of millennials confirm having used a public library in the last year and are the most likely demographic to read books for pleasure. Yet many library programs are focused on youth, teen and senior citizens.

“At the Rochester Hills Public Library we make it a priority to serve all of the age groups in our community. These new programs will reinforce that commitment,” said Library Director Christine Lind Hage.

The library will be offering a circus skills workshop, a book club at the Rochester Mills and an adults only recess.

Cirque Amongus is a circus skills workshop. During the workshop professional performers will help participants test their balance with skills like walking a tightrope, the trapeze and riding a unicycle. The program will be held Thursday, July 7 from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m.

Books on Tap is for people who love reading and a craft beer. Books on Tap is July 18 at the Rochester Mills from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. The book being discussed is Modern Romance by Aziz Ansari. Complimentary appetizers will be served.

For those hungry for nostalgia the library is hosting an Adult Recess Friday August 5 from 6:30 – 9:00 p.m. Participants will get to relive all their favorite games from childhood like four square and flashlight tag. Refreshments will be served and alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase.

“The more we reach out to this age group the more likely they are to become life-long library users,” said Adult Services Manager Jessica Parij.

More adult summer programs include Library Trivia at the Rochester Mills Aug 22 from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. and a World Cinema Night from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Aug 24. Programs are free for RHPL library card holders. Attendees must register in advance. For more information on the programs please visit www.RHPL.org.
