The City of Rochester Hills Fiscal Office is proud to be the recipient of the Governmental Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the FY 2012 Budget.
The Distinguished Budget Award is the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting. This marks the seventeenth consecutive year that the City has earned the prestigious recognition, and reflects the commitment of the governing body and staff to meeting the highest principals of governmental budgeting.
“This award demonstrates the city’s commitment to go beyond the minimum requirements of simply producing a budget, but rather preparing one that is informative to our residents and transparent for our community to see,” states Mayor Bryan K. Barnett.
In order to receive this award, a governmental unit must publish a budget document that meets nationally recognized program criteria as a policy document, as an operations guide, as a financial plan, and as a communications device. Documents submitted to the Budget Awards Program are reviewed by selected members of the GFOA professional staff and by outside reviewers with experience in public-sector budgeting.
Award recipients have pioneered efforts to improve the quality of budgeting and provide an excellent example for other governments. The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association that serves approximately 17,500 government finance professionals with offices in Chicago, IL, and Washington, D.C.
