Aims to Transform Corridor into Vibrant District
The Southeast Michigan Council of Governments (SEMCOG) Transportation Alternatives Program awarded the City of Rochester Hills $481,318 to develop the Auburn Road Streetscape.
This funding will be utilized as part of an approximately $10 million project that will make Auburn Road Corridor into a unique destination. Upgrades like wide sidewalks, benches, bike racks, and street lighting will give the stretch between Culbertson and Dequindre a Main Street spirit.
The vision for these improvements was inspired by feedback from residents in the area. This local engagement created a multi-phase plan that enhances the identity, history, and brand of the Brooklands neighborhood.
“Our residents have provided a blueprint for a walkable, people-oriented area,” states Mayor Bryan K. Barnett. “We look forward to creating a space where people can dine, shop, and gather with friends in public spaces and we thank SEMCOG for investing in our community.”
As the area is developed, the city will continue to seek public feedback. On August 16, residents are invited to join the city at the NW concern of Auburn & Emmons to be updated on the progress and share their thoughts on the proposed streetscape features.
