Rochester Media is “Your source for all things Rochester” and the greater Rochester area. What does that mean for local residents? Well, for those who do or do not understand what has taken place in the local and regional media market in recent years, here’s a synopsis.
When Gannett, one of the largest international media companies, began going around North America to purchase community newspaper groups during the past decade, it eventually left a large hole of local media coverage, with the closing and mass consolidation of many non-daily newspapers, especially in the Midwest.
The Rochester area, along with numerous Oakland County communities, lost the Observer & Eccentric in 2009, which receded into just south central Oakland County and western Wayne County. Many of the daily newspapers in the United States and Canada have also cut back significantly, with smaller publications, smaller circulation numbers and days of publication, which has widened the hole of local news that does not reach the community.
All of these events have left a gaping hole in this region, and one that Rochester Media hopes to fill in upcoming months and years. It has the simple goal of delivering local news to your finger tips.
As for sports coverage, Rochester Media will be doing some synergy work with www.northoaklandsports.com, a regional sports website that serves multiple communities, including the Rochester area, that is owned and operated by the Stickradt Media Group and has strong Rochester ties. This site has already garnered just shy of two million total hits in only seven months and is growing rapidly.
So in today’s era of advancing technology, all one has to do turn on the Internet on your computer, phone or ipad, and here you will find the latest of what’s happening in the community you live – and more.
