The City of Rochester was recently named the Best Place in Michigan to raise a family by WalletHub. To help families find the best Michigan cities in which to put down roots, WalletHub’s analysts compared 104 cities in the state across four key dimensions: Family Life & Fun; Education, Health & Safety; Affordability and Socioeconomics.
Mayor Cathy Daldin said of the award, “I am not surprised. All the reasons mentioned in the survey are why my husband and I moved here 28 years ago. Everything about Rochester fosters a genuine sense of community.”
To score the cities, WalletHub’s data team compared the 104 most populous cities in the Michigan based on 21 key indicators of family-friendliness: Number of Playgrounds, Number of Attractions, Percentage of Families with Children Aged 0-17, Weather, Average Commute Time, Quality of School System, High School Graduation Rate, Air Quality, Number of Pediatricians per Capita, Percentage of Children Aged 0-17 Lacking Health Coverage, Violent Crime Rate Per Capita, Property Crime Rate Per Capita, Housing Affordability, General Affordability, Separation & Divorce Rate, Percentage of Two-Parent Families, Percentages of Families Living Below the Poverty Level, Percentage of Families Receiving Food Stamps, Unemployment Rate, Wealth Gap and Foreclosure Rate.

So glad you emphasize the positive aspects of our town w/ articles like this. We need to overcome ads published by The Gazette Newspapers that feature Santa Claus carrying an assault weapon! Not even The Grinch or Scrooge offer to sell “your loved one a weapon” as a Christmas present! Gerry’s Gun Shop in the heart of town, stuck a stick in the eye of the community w/ that one, added by Gazette’s art staff.
