“Rochester continues to exemplify a model downtown organization that has been successful in managing its historic downtown for two decades”, commented John Bry, Main Street Oakland County Program Coordinator. “As a past Great American Main Street Award winner, Rochester serves as a reminder of the positive community wide benefits a vibrant downtown can bring to the economic, social, and cultural health for the entire community. And being accredited for 15 years straight by the National Main Street Center and Main Street Oakland County are evidence of that achievement.”

Downtown Rochester’s performance is evaluated by Main Street Oakland County, which works in partnership with Main Street America to identify the local programs that meet ten rigorous performance standards. Evaluation criteria determines the communities that are building comprehensive and sustainable revitalization efforts and include standards such as fostering strong public-private partnerships, documenting programmatic progress, and actively preserving historic buildings.
