Water is the most destructive element to our pavements and a good preventive maintenance program always includes crack sealing. We need to prevent water intrusion into our pavements and slow the deterioration as much as possible to extend our pavement’s life.
The City of Rochester has hired an expert contractor to seal the joints and cracks in some of our streets this summer. This process entails routering the crack, blowing out dirt and debris with compressed air, and then injecting a hot asphalt sealant. The process will create some dust and vibrations, and the sealant is typically applied at 375 degrees.
Traffic will be maintained on all streets with slight delays in the work areas during the project. If you notice a work crew in your neighborhood, please don’t park on the street if possible, turn your sprinklers off and keep children, pets and bicycles safely away from the construction.
The contractor will be working in several areas throughout the city starting on Monday, June 6, 2016 through the middle of July. These areas include (but not limited to) Bloomer Ridge Subdivision, portions of the Bluffs Subdivision, Sycamore Drive, Catalpa Drive, Maple Drive, and areas of the city South of University and West of Walnut near Mount Avon Cemetery.
Thank you very much for your patience and understanding during this project. If you have any questions, please feel free to call the Rochester Department of Public Works at (248) 651-5165.
