For the first time in the team history, the Rochester United High School Figure Skating “A” Team placed in the top three at the Michigan High School Figure Skating Team State Championships, held over the weekend in Bay City, Michigan. The “A” Team members, or Varsity team, skated their way into second place in a field of 29 teams from across Michigan.
The Rochester United Figure Skating Team is a combined school club made up of 37 figure skaters from all of the district high schools—Rochester, Adams, Stoney, and an RCS student attending the International Academy.
“We were honored that our “A” team (varsity) qualified for the State Championship for the 3rd consecutive year,” said Coach Helene Wolf,” although our “B” team (JV) & “C” (Freshman) had some slippery ice during their season. This not only marked the first time Rochester United was able to establish an A, B and C team but also the first time a Rochester United team placed in the Top 3 at the State Championship.”
The Michigan High School Figure Skating championships are comprised of the top 12 teams from across the state. The Rochester United team had to qualify by placing in the Top 2 within their district.
