Rochester University’s Theatre & Music Department presents Peter and the Starcatcher, a play by Rick Elice, based on the novel by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, with music by Wayne Barker, and directed by Courtney Dunbar. Originally produced on Broadway by Nancy Nagel Gibbs, Greg Schaffert, Eva Price, Tom Smedes, and Disney Theatrical Productions.
In this prequel to Peter Pan, The Boy Who Wouldn’t Grow Up is just an unnamed orphan onboard a ship called The Neverland. Here he meets Molly Aster, an apprentice Starcatcher, whose father is on another ship with a trunk that contains something incredibly valuable and dangerous… starstuff. When Molly discovers that the devious captain of The Neverland has stolen the trunk, she enlists the help of the boy and his friends to help keep the treasure out of the wrong hands and return it to her father. What was meant to be a simple voyage becomes an awfully big adventure as dangerous storms, marauding pirates, jungle tyrants, mystical mermaids, and even a hungry crocodile stand in the way of their mission. Filled with treacherous battles, hilarious dialogue, goofy mayhem, and unlikely heroes, let your imagination set sail with this fresh take on a classic tale!
Evening performances of Peter and the Starcatcher will be November 10-12 and 17-19 at 7:30 p.m., while matinee performances will be November 13 and 20 at 2:30 p.m. All performances will take place on the campus of Rochester University at 800 W.
