Rochester Writers’ Tenth Annual Fall Conference

“Made in Michigan” is the theme for Rochester Writers’ tenth annual fall conference at Oakland University on Saturday, October 21. The morning keynote speaker is Tom Daldin from the PBS TV show, Under the Radar Michigan. Tom is the host and writer of this Emmy award-winning program featuring Michigan destinations. Daldin lives in Downtown Rochester. John D. Lamb, songwriter and director of Springfed Arts, is the afternoon keynote speaker. Lamb lives in Royal Oak.

Carrie Howland from Empire Literary Agency in New York returns to her home state of Michigan to meet with attending authors. In addition, Cyle Young and Bethany Morehead from the Hartline Literary Agency will be setting appointments with authors seeking representation.

Breakout sessions will offer writers options for workshops and panel discussions on focused topics. “Self-publishing, story structure, crafting pitches, and a magazine editors’ panel are among the growing list of professional development presentations,” said Michael Dwyer, organizer of the event.

The conference begins at 9:00 a.m. in the Oakland Center at Oakland University. Refreshments and lunch come with the registration fee, which covers all the presentations. Offering a variety of workshops, lectures, and panel discussions, the conference is designed so attendees may select the ones most interesting to them. The event concludes at 5:00 p.m.

Michael Dwyer, former radio talk show host, turned his efforts to travel writing in 2003. His hometown newspaper voted him columnist of the year in 2006 by reader survey. Michael is published internationally in magazines on topics including travel, skiing, beer, pirates, and horseracing. Dwyer is a past Advisory Board member for the North American Travel Journalists Association. His passion for writing is most prevalent as founder and organizer of the Rochester Writers’ Conference held annually in southeast Michigan. He lives in Rochester Hills, MI.
