Search continues for missing Rochester man George Vanderweit

Rochester Chief of Police Steve Schettenhelm reminds residents that George Vanderweit, 70, is still missing. On July 5, Vanderweit went missing after leaving home to ride his green bike near Runyon Road and Dequindre Road.

vanderweit 2It was reported that he left without money, any identification or his cell phone. Several searches were unsuccessful in finding Vanderweit.

“We’ve had a couple of sitings that haven’t materialized to anything,” he said.

As his 71st birthday approaches, police continue to look for him.

At 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing 178 pounds, Vanderweit is a while male and was last seen wearing a red shirt, with “Bargains” written on it, and olive green shorts.

Initial news releases shared that when he went missing, Vanderweit had recently left a mental health facility and is considered to be a danger to himself.
