Second Annual Sunday Painters is a Huge Success

Art was everywhere during the 45th annual Art & Apples Festival as Rochester Community House hosted their annual “Sunday Painters Art Show.” This year, 31 artists with a total of 60 pieces of art were a part of the show.

Described by Dr. Loren Siffring, who exhibited his art in the Sunday Painter shows of the 80s, “They are local artists who are ‘non-professionals’. Their artwork is their passion but not their main source of income.” Dr. Siffring teaches art classes from his studio and many of his students have joined the exhibit. “This is a wonderful venue to display the work of young artists,” he said, “or older artists who may have rediscovered their love of art during retirement.”

With the help of Paint Creek Center for the Arts who run the Art & Apple Festival, the Sunday Painter’s group was revived last year at Rochester Community House. This year, Suzanne Wiggins, director of PCCA, was again a part of the art show “We had music performed on the Rochester Community House deck to encourage Art & Apple visitors to come in to RCH to view the Sunday Painters exhibit.”

“Ribbons were presented for the most popular three paintings in the show. We hope the public will come in, relax in our beautiful building, and tour the exhibit,” said Mary Lee Kowalczyk, director of Rochester Community House.

With more than 360 People’s Choice Award votes, three winners were chosen. First place was given to Dr. Loren Siffrin for his piece, “Standing Tall.” Second place went to Daniel Buckley for “Setting Sail.” And, the third place ribbon was presented to Donna Bailey, last year’s first place winner, for her painting, “Scent of Spring.’
