Library’s are More Than Just Books with Events Like the Solar Eclipse
Rochester Hills Public Library (RHPL) is leading a growing trend among libraries to offer adventure kits, mobile hot spots, and other non-traditional library materials along with standard book circulation.
“The Rochester Hills Public Library strives to be an educational town square by offering materials and activities that enrich the lives of our community members while keeping them engaged and entertained,” says Adult Services Manager Jessica Parij. “The next kit we hope to release will be on star gazing, the kit will be a nice complement to our Solar Eclipse Watch Party on August 21.”
Participants of the watch party will be given special glasses that allow them to safely witness the 80 percent partial solar eclipse happening at 1 :00 p.m. on Monday, August 21.
Prior to the watch party, the library will host Our Amazing Sun, an educational seminar on solar eclipses, Thursday, August 17 at 7:00 p.m. During the seminar, Oakland University Professor Dr. Kapila Clara Castoldi will cover why eclipses happen, the ‘hidden’ aspects of our Sun and solar observations in space.
To attend the lecture and the watch party, please register at calendar.rhpl.org.
I have registered–will the glasses be available Monday? And where do we gather?
