Graphic designers, engineers and surgeons are among the more than 50 professionals who will reach out to the next generation of their chosen industries at the second annual STEAM Career Exploration Fair next month.
STEAM is an expansion of the STEM acronym that includes science, technology, engineering, art and math; the event is designed for middle and high school students and is planned for 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, March 5th at Rochester High School.

Between 250 and 300 students attended last year’s inaugural STEAM career fair.
“We will expose students to some of the many STEAM careers available, provide them with information on education necessary for each career and encourage students to take STEAM courses that will help them become ready for future careers by promoting creative thinking and problem solving,” said Michelle Bueltel, one of the organizers of the event, which is sponsored by the Rochester Community Schools PTA Council.
The PTA Council includes representatives of the PTAs from each of 20 schools in the school district. The career fair has received donations from AT&T and from Gates Corporation. There is no admission fee, but the day includes workshops that require a pre-registration.
