The Varsity Hockey Team for Stoney Creek High School, braving winter storms that shut down roads and schools, collected food to provide holiday baskets for families in need this Christmas.
Varsity Hockey team members collected food during the early December snow and ice storms. The baskets were delivered to the Rochester Area Neighborhood House, a non-profit human service organization founded by communities of faith in 1968 that assists their neighbors during times of hardship.
“They did an awesome job,” said Sharon Sutton, the office manager at the Rochester Area Neighborhood House. “I was there when the baskets were passed out to the clients, and there was such heartfelt appreciation. There were lots of smiles. Families were overwhelmed by the boys’ time and effort, and it will certainly make a difference in their holidays.”
This season, the Neighborhood House provided 317 holiday baskets to area families, Sutton said.
“I was so proud of them,” said Dianne Ketner, whose son Adam spearheaded the project as part of his involvement in the National Honor Society. “These are boys who never go to bed hungry, but they gave of themselves. It was such a positive experience.”
