Summer Reading with the Rochester Hills Public Library

The Rochester Hills Public Library (RHPL) is hosting their annual summer reading event from June 12 to August 21, kids, parents, adults, and teens are encouraged to read and have fun with reading challenges and library activities. Readers can track their progress online for a chance to win great prizes.

“Reading and lifelong learning are priorities at RHPL,” said library director Juliane Morian. “The library’s new strategic plan highlights and supports learners of all ages, along with nurturing young minds and helping patrons find joy and discovery at the library. Summer reading is a perfect time to discover all the library has to offer inside and out.”

Track reading progress using the library’s summer reading website or a convenient mobile app available in both the Apple and Google Play stores (links available at rhpl.org). Patrons without Internet access may register online using one of the library’s computers or speak with an RHPL librarian to get started.

RHPL patrons may pre-register for any reading challenge now. Actual tracking of reading and eligibility for prizes begins on June 12. Register for the Summer Reading and sign up using an active RHPL card. For easier sign-up, households can make one account and add readers all in one spot. Parents of children participating should register themselves first and then add readers to their accounts.

The only rule for summer reading is to read every day. Read articles, books, eBooks, audiobooks, graphic novels, magazines, and even cereal boxes. All forms of reading count. Earn virtual reading and activity badges to celebrate summer reading progress.

All activity badges automatically enter readers in an end-of-summer raffle. Some badges earn entries to grand prize drawings, which include one of two youth bikes donated by the Stony Creek Masonic Lodge No. 5 F. & A.M. (Independent Readers), a Detroit Zoo membership (Pre-Readers and Parents), virtual reality headsets (Independent Readers and Teen), virtual assistants (Teen), gift baskets (Adult), dinner in downtown Rochester (Adult), and more.

Raffle prizes include gift certificates and book bundles. Everyone who participates in RHPL’s summer reading event through August 21 will receive a free book.
