The Friends of the Rochester Hills Public Library’s Summer Used Book and Media Sale – set for July 25 – 28 and Monday, July 30 – is looking to be a sound and sight spectacular.
Sale chairperson Ann Gruenewald reports, “We have a huge number of CDs and DVDs this time.”
The sale is at the library building at 500 Olde Towne Road in downtown Rochester. It will be located in the library’s second floor addition in the space dedicated to the Friends’ used media operation.
There are 35,000-40,000 hardcover and paperback books in many other categories, plus lots of fiction. Most will go for $1 for hardcover and large softcover and 50 cents for small paperbacks. The DVDs go for $2, CDs & VHS cassettes for 50 cents with some board games and puzzles also economically priced. All children’s books are 50 cents except for a small number of like-new books that are priced slightly higher. Because the library is closed on Sundays in the summer, the Bag Day (all the items you can place in a large paper grocery bag for $5) will be Monday July 30. Come early for the best selection.
As usual, Friends members get to take part in a pre-sale, set for Wednesday, July 25, from 5:30 – 8:00 p.m. (New members can join upon entry. Registration at individual $20; family $35; Student/Senior $10 and senior couple $20 are available at the door.)
The general sale open to the public then takes place as follows (note that sale hours are slightly different than the library’s hours of operation):
- Thursday, July 26: 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
- Friday, July 27: 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Saturday, July 28: 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Monday, July 30: 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Bag Day (explained above).
Most of the books and other sales material are donated by library patrons throughout the year. For more info on how to donate media and on the value of a Friends membership, go to www.rhpl.org and click on the Friends link at the bottom of the home page.
Proceeds from the event go to the Friends, the Library’s primary volunteer support group. The Friends, in turn, fund many library needs and improvements beyond its public budget from Rochester, Rochester Hills, and Oakland Township.
