For the fifth straight year, Huntington Ford of Rochester Hills has awarded a full-tuition, renewable scholarship to an Oakland University-bound student from the Greater Rochester area. Dealership owners Pat and Christie Scoggin recently presented this year’s award to Rachel Swink, a 2016 graduate of Avondale High School. Huntington Ford helps area youth with a head start in college

Huntington Ford of Rochester Hills has partnered with Oakland University to establish a scholarship for an incoming freshman from one of four Rochester area high schools – Adams, Stoney Creek, Rochester or Avondale. The scholarship will support an OU student with a four-year renewable award to be applied toward the cost of tuition. 6 Avondale students Win Scholastic Art Awards

Six Avondale High School art students earned a first place/Gold Key in this year’s Southeastern Michigan Scholastic Art Awards. Their work will continue on to New York City for the National Competition in late March. Rachel Tran, a senior from Rochester Hills, won a Best of Show awards for her art portfolio. She was one of seven portfolio winners from among 300 submissions. School boards to seat new members

The Rochester board of education will have two new members next year. In Tuesday's election, incumbent Beth Talbert finished first with 1,148 votes. Jane Pierobon finished second with 960 votes; Pat Piskulich finished third with 819 votes. They defeated newcomers Jeremy Nielson and Tom Malysz. Two incumbents chose not to run. Pierobon is a nurse. Avondale to Revise Deficit Plan

The Avondale Board of Education has approved a budget for the 2011-12 school year that meets the terms of a state-approved deficit elimination plan. The board approved  the new budget Monday after reaching concession agreements with employee groups, including wage reductions of 1-2 percent plus increases in health-care contributions to at least 20 percent.
