Dear Crabby, What Are Your Thoughts on the Silverdome Implosion?
Dear Crabby, I know you must have an opinion about the Pontiac Silverdome snafu on Sunday. So, go ahead and lay it on me! Thanks, Stan Safety Dear Mr. Safety, You betcha I have an opinion! The implosion actually reminded me a lot of what it’s like to be a Detroit Lions’ fan: Great expectations with a disappointing payoff. First of all, let me remind those who might not be regular readers that I’m going to miss the Silverdome. That old girl and I have shared a lot of memories … [Read more...]
Dear Crabby, How Do Hurricanes Get Their Names?
Dear Crabby, Is it just me or are there more hurricanes than normal lately? It seems like they used to be a rare occurrence, but now I hear about them almost every night on the news. And it got me wondering … how do hurricanes get their names? Thanks. Gail Storm Dear Gail Storm, I have to agree with you. Hurricanes have been relentless this year. The devastation Harvey, Irma, and Maria have caused is just staggering. And then I read some people that were affected by Harvey in Texas … [Read more...]
Dear Crabby, Why Does the Super Bowl Use Roman Numerals?
Dear Crabby, Man. I sure thought it was going to be the Detroit Lions year—that we’d finally make a triumphant return to the Super Bowl. I still plan on watching the game, but it won’t be as much fun. Hey. Do you happen to know in why the heck they use Roman numerals? Thanks, Sid Sideline Dear Mr. Sideline, I know what you mean. If the Chicago Cubs can win a World Series after a 108-year drought, why can’t the Detroit Lions win a Super Bowl? Alas, it just wasn’t meant to be. And … [Read more...]
Dear Crabby, Are You Ready for Some Commercials?
Dear Crabby, This past Saturday I settled in to spend a full afternoon and evening watching commercials. Instead, I was occasionally blasted with a few minutes of football. Where do I file a complaint? Thanks, Orville H. Dear Orville, Wait a minute. You mean you don’t want to be bombarded by male enhancement products, along with pizza, beer, and a host of other products every two minutes while watching your favorite football teams? Good thing you don’t work in advertising. But … [Read more...]
Dear Crabby, Is It Too Early for Christmas?
Dear Crabby, I love fall. Living in Michigan, I think it’s the best season to experience and our last hurrah before the dreaded ‘s’ stuff starts falling. But it seems like as soon as Labor Day was over and the school routine started up again, I was hearing whispers of Christmas. Now I’m no Scrooge, but isn’t it too early to be talking about putting up trees and playing holiday music non-stop? Thanks, Suzie Salem Dear Suzie Salem, Yes! It’s absolutely too soon to be yapping about … [Read more...]
Dear Crabby, Will I-75 Be Finished in Our Lifetime?
Dear Crabby, Just when you think Michigan’s orange barrel season might be tapering off – boom! The big I-75 project starts. Do you really think it will take as long as they’re saying? If so, I may need to move. Thanks, Bob Bitumen Dear Bob Bitumen, First, I think it’s hilarious that you believe orange barrel season ever ends in this state. I’m pretty sure somewhere there is still some road being worked on dating back to when Michigan became a state in 1837. Second, I definitely … [Read more...]
