In 1838, the first Jacobson’s store opened in Reed City, Michigan. It eventually expanded, opening stores in Ann Arbor, Battle Creek and Jackson, Michigan as well, moving its headquarters to Jackson in 1937. Two years later Nathan Rosenfeld purchased the company and began expanding it throughout the state and held the position of chairman until his death in 1982.
