Oakland Township Manager Resigns after Vote to Terminate

Ann Capela Resigns after Vote to Terminate in September 29 Meeting Ann Capela resigned just minutes after the Oakland Township Board of Trustees votes to terminate her contract at a special meeting Monday evening. The 5-2 vote comes nine months after hiring Capela. Township Supervisor Terry Gonser and Trustee Maureen Thalman voted agaist the motion to terminate. Orion Road to Close for Two Months

Orion Road Bridge to Close Orion Road will be closed just north of Snell Road to replace the bridge over Paint Creek in the heart of Oakland Township. Starting June 23, the closure will last to approximately August 15 with the complete project wrapping up by September 12. More than 7,000 vehicles cross the bridge every day. 28 Acres Burned in Oakland Township

Smoking Monday in Oakland Township Oakland Township has conducted two prescribed burns so far this spring. Residents may have spotted smoke in the area on Monday due to the prairie restoration plan that called for 28-acres to be burned. Seventeen acres were burned in the old agricultural fields in Charles Illsley Park and eleven acres were burned at the Bear Creek Nature Park. Plantwise, LLC out of Ann Arbor completed the burns. Rochester Cider Mill Still Waiting

Two More Weeks The Barkham Family, owners of the Rochester Cider Mill, and their attorney, Eric Lipson, have been attending Oakland Township Board of Trustee meetings since January. Their hope is to convince the board to agree to amend a 1987 court ordered consent agreement on the operation of the property. The cider mill is residential property and falls into a void of neither being a commercially zoned business nor a working farm.
