Dear Crabby, I love fall. Living in Michigan, I think it’s the best season to experience and our last hurrah before the dreaded ‘s’ stuff starts falling. But it seems like as soon as Labor Day was over and the school routine started up again, I was hearing whispers of Christmas. Now I’m no Scrooge, but isn’t it too early to be talking about putting up trees and playing holiday music non-stop? Thanks, Suzie Salem Dear Suzie Salem, Yes! It’s absolutely too soon to be yapping about … [Read more...]
Dear Crabby, When Will Women Be on Money?
Dear Crabby, I was in Starbucks the other day and pulled out a $10 bill to pay when I remembered, weren’t they going to replace Alexander Hamilton with a woman’s picture? And if so, when will it happen? Thanks, Diana Diez Dear Diana Diez, That’s right. I had forgotten about the proposed switch-a-roo myself. I love history. In fact, I earned a medal in sixth grade for memorizing all the presidents and their bios and reciting it in front of the whole school, so I’m very qualified to … [Read more...]
Dear Crabby, What Was Your Favorite Story from 2015?
Dear Crabby, I'm a loyal reader of your column and I was wondering out of all the topics you wrote about this past year, which one was your favorite? Thanks! Dave Devotée Dear Mr. Devotée, First, thanks for reading my column. You have excellent taste in reading material. Of course I think everyone should be reading it because clearly I'm the go-to authority on pretty much everything. My grandkids will tell you that's because I'm older than dirt, but I like to think it's because God … [Read more...]
Dear Crabby, Why Does Starbucks Hate Christmas?
Dear Crabby, Plain red coffee cups this year, it must mean that Starbucks hates Christmas, right? Sincerely, Kara T. Coffee Dear Kara, You must be upset at Starbucks for producing a plain red coffee cup this year during the holiday season. Many Christians have been outraged that Starbucks didn't do a fancy paper cup, but instead brewed up a simple design, well, no design at all really, just the color red. In past years, the coffee mogul has used Christmas tree ornaments, bows, … [Read more...]
Cleaned-up corner in Rochester Hills to welcome new retail development
According to a recent article in The Oakland Press, starting this fall the corner of Auburn and Rochester Roads will have a new look. Is Starbucks Anti Gun Now?
The USAToday.com reports, "After months of wrangling over the highly emotional issue, Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz on Wednesday announced that guns are no longer permitted in Starbucks stores — or in Starbucks outdoor seating areas. Schultz made the comments in an open letter to his "Fellow Americans" that was posted on the company's website. In an interview with USA TODAY on Tuesday, Schultz said: "The presence of a weapon in our stores is unsettling and upsetting for many of our … [Read more...]
Happy Medium
Being in the middle of things seems to get a bad rap. A middle child often gets the "acts out for attention" label, even if both other siblings do the same kind of things. Starbucks doesn't label their middle size "medium." They go from tall to venti, completely skipping the word that implies being in between. And no one wants to be caught saying "I'm in between jobs" because that generally implies an undesirable negative situation. Personally, I am usually wishing I could be in the middle if … [Read more...]
Deeper than Appearances
If you want to blend in around our community as a parent, there are a few things you can do. Number one: Drive a blue, black, or blackish blue Town & Country minivan. Number two: When cold weather hits, like the low 50's, pull out your black North Face coat. Number three: Tote around a Starbucks cup with you each time you drop your kids off at school, after the gym, and when you watch games at the soccer field. Maybe I’m being overly hard on our demographic, but honestly I'm … [Read more...]

Starbucks Introduces New Drink Size
Starbucks announces this week that it will be offering a new size on its menu- the Trenta. Just when you thought you could hold your own with the Italian lingo, the coffee giant goes super-size on us! The Trenta is a 31 ounce cup that will only be offered with the chain's iced drinks initially. There are a lot of things that would make life better, but did we really need a larger Starbucks cup? I guess if you still cannot keep your eyes open after 24 ounces, or a Venti to you connoisseurs, … [Read more...]
