Van Hoosen Middle School is pleased to announce a special silent dismissal and flagpole ceremony on Wednesday, November 11, to commemorate Veterans Day. Rochester Community Schools to Rededicate Veterans Memorial Plaque from RHS Class of 1947
On November 10, 2014 Rochester Community Schools will host a reception at 6:30 p.m. in the Harrison Room to rededicate the plaque in memory of “the men who gave their lives in World War II” that was donated by the Rochester High School class of 1947. The plaque has been restored and will be relocated to a place of greater prominence within the Rochester Community Schools Administration building. Crittenton Home Care and nonprofit Cell Phones for Soldiers Inc. are asking Oakland County residents to help troops call home by donating gently used cellular phones and smart phones. Although the military landscape is ever changing, as many as 290,000 troops are serving in the U.S. military overseas around the world. North Hill Helpers craft letters for Veterans Day
After school on Thursday, North Hill Helpers exhibited patriotism and gratitude for local veterans through good ole fashioned letters. When asked why the students wanted to participate, one responded “My grandpa is a veteran and I wanted to write letters to thank people like him.” North Hill Helpers is the community service club at North Hill Elementary School. The annual Veterans Day Ceremony will be held at Veterans Memorial Pointe on Sunday, November 11 at 11 a.m. Guest speakers will be Rochester Hills Mayor Bryan Barnett and commanders from local VFW, DAV and American Legion posts.
