Increase in Whooping Cough Prompts Health Advisory The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and Oakland County Health Division are issuing a health advisory following an increase in the number of identified pertussis cases, commonly referred to as whooping cough. Anyone exposed to pertussis and displaying symptoms should be evaluated by a doctor to determine if antibiotics are needed. Infants younger than 12 months are at greatest risk. Health Division: Get back-to-school vaccinations in July

In a press release the Oakland County Health Division recommends getting back-to-school vaccinations in July in order to avoid the August rush. Health Division offices in Pontiac and Southfield are open to give immunizations on Mondays from noon – 8 p.m. and Tuesdays through Fridays from 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. “Vaccines can save your child’s life,” County Executive L.
