Take Root to Host One Night Only Performance July 21 in The Cube

Take Root, the professional modern dance company co-founded and directed by Oakland University (OU) dance faculty Thayer Jonutz and Ali Woerner, performs An Evening of Movement & Music, a one night only performance beginning at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 21 in “The Cube,” the Detroit Symphony Orchestra’s (DSO) revamped performance space located inside Detroit’s Max M. & Marjorie S. Fisher Music Center.

“Take Root is thrilled to be back in Detroit,” said Woerner, an associate professor of dance at OU. “We can’t wait to mix Take Root’s unique aesthetic with The Cube’s beautiful and fresh atmosphere. It’s the perfect summer collaboration.”

Known for their intricate partnering, thought provoking details and unrestricted vision, Take Root will make its debut in The Cube with a unique program featuring live music, their underwater dance film Ripples from the Skin We Shed and the premiere of their newest work, Airplanes and Elevators, which was inspired by the company’s recent tour of Berlin, Germany.

“Airplanes and Elevators was inspired by people we met in short interactions during our time there,” said Jonutz, an associate professor of dance at OU. “We found it fascinating how meetings with strangers in places like airplanes and elevators could be so impactful.”

Tickets are $15 general admission, $40 for a “Family 4 Pack, or $49 for the VIP Experience, which includes general admission, one free drink and one food voucher. Tickets can be purchased online at dso.org.
