Tea Party Brightens Day for Older Residents

On a recent beautiful summery day in early September, the Horticultural Therapy Committee of the Rochester Garden Club hosted a tea party in the gardens of Sanctuary at Bellbrook in Rochester Hills to brighten the day for thirty Assisted Living residents. Committee members made flower-festooned hats for the residents, who were seated at tables covered with white table cloths. Finger sandwiches, fruit kabobs, brownies and other desserts were served, and tea was poured out into bone china cups with matching saucers, which made the day extra special.

This annual event has been a resident favorite for many years according to committee Chairman, Jean Dertouzos. Her dedicated committee members happily worked together to make this a special day for the ladies (and one gentleman) who joined the fun.  The Committee has been recognized for their commitment to bringing color, smiles and floral activities to these seniors through the Woman’s National Farm & Garden Association Horticultural Therapy Orchid Award.

Funding for this project comes from the annual Greens Market which will be held on December 1-3 at the Rochester Schools Administration Center, which is a new venue this year. Visit www.RochesterGardenClub.org for more information about club activities and the Greens Market.
