Screwball Comedy Runs February 12 through March 9, 2025, on the Campus of Oakland University
In 1948, a ritzy Newport mansion is populated by playwrights, actors, a young star-struck author, and the housekeeper who would like all of them to leave. When their weekend getaway goes horribly awry, only a play within the play can save the day. The Angel Next Door is a comedy that’s in love with theater, about people in love with theater, who know that, sometimes, even reality needs a rewrite to reach a happy ending.
The Angel Next Door, written by Paul Slade Smith, adapted from Ferenc Molnar’s play “Play at the Castle,” runs February 12 through March 9, 2025, at Meadow Brook Theatre (MBT)on the campus of Oakland University in Rochester Hills.
“I was talking with one of our subscribers and they mentioned this show and that they thought it would be a great fit for Meadow Brook Theatre’s audiences,” says Cheryl Marshall, Managing Director. “I read the show and fell in love with it. I’m thrilled that we will be presenting the show this season.”
The cast of The Angel Next Door includes familiar faces that have made MBT audiences laugh through the years. It includes David Aron Damane as Victor Pratt, Phil Powers as Arthur Sanders, Mary Robin Roth as Charlotte Sanders, Chris Stinson as Oliver Adams, Cheryl Turski as Olga, and Olivia Ursu as Margot Bell.
The Angel Next Door is directed by Travis W. Walter. “The middle of winter is a great time for something funny. This comedy will deliver an abundance of laughs for our audiences.” With scenic design by Donna Beagle, costume design by Marley Boone, lighting design by Neil Koivu, and sound design by Brendan Eaton. Brittanie Nichole Sicker is the stage manager and Caridad Guy is the assistant stage manager.
