The Rochester Area Junior Chamber’s Safety Town in Full Swing

Summer vacation has just begun but young children in the Rochester Area are already preparing for the first day of Kindergarten by learning various aspects of life safety through the Rochester Area Jaycees’ “Safety Town” program. At Safety Town, kids from the ages of four to six learn basic safety concepts through the use of interactive experiences.

With the format of a small-scale town featuring portable buildings, sidewalks, roads, and street signs, the Safety Town learning environment is a remarkable and engaging practice area for children. All lessons and activities relate to a specific topic each day. Areas of focus range from traffic and pedestrian safety to fire and personal safety, complete with special visits from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, Rochester Hills Fire Department, Operation Lifesaver, and Louie the Lightning Bug from DTE Energy. There is even a special graduation ceremony recognizing each student’s accomplishments at the close of the session.
