The Rochester Garden Club wants to thank the community for its fabulous support as our annual Greens Market wraps up for the year. We welcomed hundreds of shoppers, including many first time attendees, to our market this year. People were delighted at the extensive selection of unique, handmade arrangements and fresh greens purchased to grace their homes this holiday season. Christmas cookies and gourmet items flew off the shelves, into the eager hands (and mouths) of family and friends. Original art work and crafts were purchased as one-of-a-kind gifts for the holiday season.
The best part of the Greens Market is that all the proceeds will be returned to the community through educational outreach and activities in support of gardening, civic beautification, environmental stewardship and agriculture. A favorite project among members is the preschool garden program. Clubs members visit all the pre-k classes in the Rochester School District each spring and teach the little ones how to plant their own garden. Another major club project is planning and maintaining the Children’s Garden at Van Hoosen Farms. Financial gifts support local conservation organizations, college scholarships for students majoring in the environmental studies and scholarships for a middle school student to attend the 4-H Great Lakes Natural Resource Camp.
