The Rochester Symphony Orchestra proudly presents its 63rd Season – An Evening in Italy and Bohemia

Step into a musical journey through Italy and Czechoslovakia with the Rochester Symphony
Orchestra’s (RSO) 63rd Season.

Attend on Friday, September 20, 2024, at 8:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s Methodist Church in Rochester for an evening that promises to enchant one’s senses and elevate their soul with the enchanting melodies of classical music.

The evening kicks off with Rossini’s enchanting “Overture to La gazza ladra,” or “The Thieving
Magpie,” a tale of mystery and mischief set to the sound of snare drums. Witness the drama unfold
as a clever magpie turns a maid’s world upside down. And that is just the beginning. Dive into the
captivating melodies of Dvořák’s Czech Suite Op. 39 and Symphony No. 7 in D Minor.

The Czech Suite, written at the peak of Dvořák’s career, is a stunning composition that showcases
traditional Czech dances and Bohemian countryside inspirations. It is a masterpiece and is one of his
most characteristic works.

Then finally, let the evening’s star composition, Dvorak’s Symphony No. 7 in D Minor, enchant you with its revered status among music critics. It is a powerful and emotional work that will leave you
breathless. Music critics highly regard Dvořák’s 7th as among the greatest and purest examples
of this art form since Beethoven.

The Conductor and Music Director can best describe this famous piece for the Rochester Symphony Orchestra, Maestro Zeljko Milicevic. When asked to expand on this particular piece, Milicevic’s excitement was evident. “It is a distinct pleasure and privilege to be able to bring to life Antonin Dvořák’s Symphony No. 7 in D Minor to the RSO’s audience for our fall concert. This piece is one of the most beautiful, romantic symphonies ever written, full of power and orchestral beauty. Dvořák is genuinely my favorite composer. He is known for bringing beautiful melody spinning and expert orchestration of different pieces and incorporating a sense of ethnic flare and wide-reaching love for romantic music.”
