The contractor for the Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) is set to begin working on the Tienken road reconstruction project, Livernois Road to just west of the Paint Creek Trail in Rochester Hills. The road will then be closed on Monday, July 21.
At that time, the Tienken Road/Livernois Road intersection will be closed in all directions for the duration of the project.
The project involves reconstructing Tienken, adding a continuous center left-turn lane and constructing a roundabout at the Livernois/Tienken intersection. The project also includes reducing a hill and the installation of a water main. The remainder of the project, from the Paint Creek Trail to Rochester Road, will be constructed in 2015.
This year’s work is expected to be completed by approximately mid-November. During this year’s closure of the Tienken/Livernois intersection, the detour route for through traffic will be Adams Road to University Drive to Rochester Road and back to Tienken and vice versa.
In 2015, work on the remainder of the project will begin in early spring and be completed by late summer. That work will involve the closure of Tienken from east of the new roundabout at Livernois to Rochester Road.
The project (both this year’s and next year’s phases) is expected to cost approximately $7.8 million. Of that amount, approximately $4.2 million will be paid for with federal funds. RCOC and the City of Rochester Hills are paying the bulk of the balance, with the City of Rochester chipping in $400,000.
The contractor for the project is Dan’s Excavating of Shelby Township.
