Two Big Book Sales at the Rochester Hills Public Library

Looking to get a leg up on holiday gift giving? Or maybe just looking for a good book to snuggle up with on an autumn day? Two upcoming events from the Friends of the Rochester Hills Public Library could help you fulfill your gifting and literary needs.

First off, the Friends’ autumn used books sale is set for October 20–24 in the upstairs used book sale room of the library at 500 Olde Towne Road in downtown Rochester.

Pre-sale opportunities for Friends members will be Wednesday from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. (New member sign-ups and renewals are available at the door).

The general public access is as follows (Note sale hours differ slightly from the library’s operating hours):

  • Thursday, October 21, 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
  • Friday, October 22, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, October 23, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Sunday, October 24, 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. (this is Bag Day where all you can fit in a standard grocery bag goes for $5)

Thousands of items are for sale with “exceptionally large numbers of children’s books, religion books, and audio books on CD available,” said sales chairperson Ann Gruenewald.

Then on November 18-20, the annual Quality Used Book Sale (and more) is a gift-giver’s dream

Every year the Friends group receives donations that are new or like-new. Some items are still in their original shrink wrap. The Quality Sale is a stellar opportunity to buy “inexpensive and unusual gifts even if the gift is to yourself,” said Gruenewald. Besides the books, there will be puzzles, games, CDs, DVDs, and other assorted items.

The sale this year will be in the first-floor multipurpose room on:

  • Thursday, November 18, 3:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
  • Friday, November 19, 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, November 20, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
