The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Rochester Hills Substation along with the Crash Reconstruction Unit are conducting a death investigation regarding a 22 year old male found in the ditch alongside Avon Road in Rochester Hills on Sunday morning around 11:30 a.m. The victim was discovered by family members who were looking for him when he did not return home from the previous evening.
Deputies were dispatched to the area of Avon Road and Crooks where they found family members along with the victim. The Rochester Hills Fire Department contacted Ascension Crittenton Hospital and subsequently, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The victim has been identified as Christopher Morgan, a 22 year old Rochester Hills resident. He was killed on Avon Road between Crooks and Adams sometime after 11:00 p.m. on Saturday from what investigators believe to be from injuries sustained due to a hit and run accident.
The family members on scene indicated the deceased attended a graduation party on Saturday night. He left the party in a vehicle with his girlfriend, his brother, and another female acquaintance. Morgan got into an argument with his girlfriend at a traffic light at Avon Road and Adams Road, where he exited the vehicle and walked eastbound on Avon Road around 10:45 p.m. This was the last time he was seen until discovering his body on Sunday morning around 11:30 a.m.
Acting on a tip from a concerned citizen, Deputies responded to the Red Roof Inn located in Orion Township. Upon arrival, they located a black Ford Fusion with substantial damage to the front right side of the vehicle. Investigators were able to identify and interview the owner of the vehicle. The owner of the car stated she believed she had hit a deer in the area of Avon and Adams on Saturday evening. The driver told investigators she had just dropped off a friend in Rochester Hills.
The owner of the vehicle believed to be involved in this incident is not in custody at this time. The incident is still under investigation and has been turned over to the Crash Reconstruction Unit. Upon completion of the investigation, the case will be presented to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office.
