According to a press release from the Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC), the following projects may cause traffic delays on roads between Aug. 20 and Aug. 27.
It is RCOC’s goal to conduct road improvement projects in a way that interferes with traffic as little as possible. This list includes both Road Commission projects and projects conducted by others, under permit, on roads under the jurisdiction of the Road Commission.
Please note: This information is subject to change. Projects can change from day to day, and traffic delays can develop in a matter of minutes due to weather, emergency situations, etc.
Asterisks next to projects denote new projects or a change since last week.
ROAD: Avon Road, Crooks Road to Adams Road
Project: Avon is closed between Crooks and Adams while RCOC resurfaces the road. The detour route is Adams to Hamlin to Livernois and back to Avon and vice versa.
Community: Rochester Hills
Completion Date: Late September
ROAD: Tienken Road, Livernois Road to the Paint Creek Trail
Project: This section of Tienken is closed while RCOC reconstructs and widens the road to three lanes, with a continuous center left-turn lane, and constructs a roundabout at the Tienken/Livernois intersection. The detour route for through traffic is Rochester Road to University Drive to Adams and back to Tienken and vice versa.
Community: Rochester Hills
Completion Date: Nov. 15 (the second phase, from Rochester Rd. to the Paint Creek Trail will take place next year)
ROAD: Orion Road bridge over the Paint Creek
Project: Orion Road is closed between Snell and Gallagher roads while RCOC replaces this bridge. The detour route is Rochester Road to Stoney Creek Road and back to Orion Road and vice versa.
Community: Oakland Twp.
Completion Date: End of August
ROAD: Orion Road between Flint Street and Rochester Road
Project: RCOC is resurfacing two sections of Orion Road. The first section is from Flint Street in Lake Orion to Adams Road in Oakland Twp. The second section is from Snell Road in Oakland Twp. to Rochester Road in Rochester Hills. The road is open during the project, but is reduced to one lane at times, with traffic directed by flaggers.
Community: Lake Orion, Orion Township, Oakland Township and Rochester Hills
Completion Date: Mid-November
*ROAD: Baldwin Road from Delevan Street to just south of I-75 (near Great Lakes Crossing mall)
Project: RCOC is replacing bad concrete slabs in this section of Baldwin. The road remains open, but is reduced to one lane in each direction. Motorists should expect delays.
Community: Auburn Hills
Completion Date: End of August
*ROAD: Baldwin Road from south of I-75 to Brown Road
Project: RCOC will remove and replace this section of Baldwin Road starting shortly after Labor Day. The road will remain open during the work, but will be reduced to one lane in each direction. Motorists should expect delays.
Community: Auburn Hills and Orion Twp.
Completion Date: November
Completed since last week:
– RCOC has completed the resurfacing of Joslyn Road, Collier Road to I-75 in Auburn Hills.
– RCOC has completed heavy maintenance work on the Avon Road bridge over the Clinton River in Rochester Hills.
