Veterans Day Ceremony to Honor All Who Served

Veterans, their families, friends and the general public are invited to attend a Veterans Day ceremony honoring all who served in the armed forces of our country.

The Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly will host the observance, set for 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 11. Fred M. Mester, retired Sixth Circuit Court Judge and Army veteran will be the keynote speaker.

The ceremony will feature patriotic music by New Century Chorale and Grand Blanc High School Chorale. Presentation of colors, a rifle salute and taps will be conducted by the Marine Corps League Flint Detachment #155. The Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and POW/MIA will also make a wreath presentation. The invocation and benediction will be conducted by Jennifer Smith, State Chaplain, Veterans of Foreign Wars.

The Great Lakes National Cemetery is one of two such National Shrines in Michigan. Opened for burials in 2005, the cemetery’s 544 acres will be the final resting place for an estimated 177,000 veterans. Thus far, over 27,500 veterans and their eligible dependents have been interred at the site.

The Great Lakes National Cemetery Advisory Council, Inc., is a non-profit tax exempt public charity under section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code, and is not an agency of the Federal Government. Agencies of the Federal Government are, by law, prohibited from soliciting gifts, donations or other instruments of monetary value, and it is understood that any transaction of this type is made between the donor and the Great Lakes National Cemetery Advisory Council, Inc.
