Veterans Day observance is Sunday

The annual Veterans Day Ceremony will be held at Veterans Memorial Pointe on Sunday, November 11 at 11 a.m. Guest speakers will be Rochester Hills Mayor Bryan Barnett and commanders from local VFW, DAV and American Legion posts.

This year, a special dedication is planned in honor of Sgt. Kyle McClain who was killed in action on August 1, 2012 during combat operations in Salim Aka, Afghanistan. Sgt. McClain was raised in Rochester Hills and graduated from Rochester High School in 2005. After graduating, he attended Ferris State University for two years before enlisting in the Army.

A site at Veterans Memorial Pointe has been selected and a memorial in his honor will be dedicated by VFW Post 3908 during our Veterans Day Ceremony.

New at the park this year is a memorial honoring the men and women who served during the Desert Storm War with Iraq (Gulf War 1) from August 1990 – February 1991. Boy Scout Jason Tran of Troop 123 planned and completed this tribute as his Eagle Scout project. With the help of his fellow troop members, he did the planning, landscaping and fund raising.
